Voices of Connection — 2/15 Cabaniss: "Peace is mine"

In honor of Black History Month, Voices of Ascension has been celebrating BIPOC vocalists and works by BIPOC composers we've performed in the past. This week, we celebrate mezzo-soprano and Brooklyn native Lucia Bradford, who will also be singing on the Duruflé Requiem on March 9!

Lucia has performed with New York City Opera (Anne LeBaron's Crescent City, William Grant Still's Troubled Island), the Wendy Taucher Company (Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief, Bizet's Carmen, Puccini's Gianni Schicchi), Opera North (Ravel's L'Enfant des Sortileges, Verdi's Falstaff), and the Houston Ebony Opera Company (Bizet's Carmen). She has also toured Russia with the Krasnoyarsk Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Orpheus Symphony Orchestra and has toured Spain with the American Spirituals Ensemble. She has also performed as a recitalist and soloist, having performed at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia with Maestro Christoph Eschenbach, as well as concerts with the Orchestra at St. Luke's, the Harlem Chamber Players, and the Witness Orchestra and Chorus. She also performs gospel and jazz.

Lucia performed Thomas Cabaniss' "Peace is mine" last October as part of our Voices of Inspiration Gala. Take a listen to her searing rendition of this song.
