Mozart Requiem

Thursday, February 8, 2024, 7:30 pm
Church of the Ascension

Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Salieri, and Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges

The Mozart Requiem is one of the iconic works of the Classical repertoire: a gripping, visceral exploration into human mortality. Mozart’s turbulent last work follows a first act of symphonic and operatic grace: from the depths of Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus and Antonio Salieri’s De Profundis to the lightness and humor of Mozart’s Regina Coeli and Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ The Anonymous Lover.  A selection of beloved operatic arias and choruses will round out the program, for full chorus, orchestra, and brilliant soloists to be announced.

les Voix FrançaiseS

Thursday, March 14, 2024, 7:30pm
Church of the Ascension

Music by Francis Poulenc and Lili Boulanger

We begin this French banquet with the exceptional music of 20th-Century French composer Lili Boulanger. Works will include the triumphant Hymne au Soleil, the exotic and highly dramatic Vieille prière bouddhique, and the touching, poetic Sous Bois.

Then we turn to Francis Poulenc’s Stabat Mater, one of the great masterpieces of French choral music, in league with the Requiems of Duruflé and Fauré. The work is alternately sumptuous and boldly dramatic; listen for moments of sparkling clarity and others of great depth.

In a first for Voices shows at Ascension, this concert will be streamed live! Click the button on the right to learn more.

voices of the new: many worlds

Tuesday, April 9, 2024, 7:30pm
Roulette Intermedium, 509 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY

World premiere compositions by Danielle Jagelski and Evan Blaché

We return to Brooklyn’s Roulette Intermedium with another concert by the Voices of Ascension Singers, in collaboration with The Unsung Collective, one of New York City’s newest and most exciting vocal ensembles. The ensemble will collaboratively create a program of choral works around the theme of music as a bridge: between different communities, between self and community, between self and something greater, and between performer and audience. Join curator Hai-Ting Chinn and Unsung Director Tyrone Clinton in a program that covers the world and eras of vocal music, with a decidedly open mind!
