We return to the newly-restored Church of the Ascension for our Renaissance concert, as we focus on two towering figures from the High Renaissance, Lassus and Byrd. Orlande de Lassus was the most famous composer in Europe at the end of the i6th Century. He traveled extensively and held some of Europe's most important posts. From his more than 2,000 compositions we have chosen a variety of motets and Mass movements, as well as his De profundis, a soaring masterpiece of the first rank.

Along with Tallis, William Byrd stands as the greatest of English Renaissance composers. Over the years we have performed — and recorded — a great deal of his music. This year we offer an entirely new selection of his great motets.
