Part two of our Baroque weekend features selections performed by Tenor Brian Giebler, excerpted from our Baroque Favorites stream originally aired on April 14, 2021. Brian writes:

While I haven’t had the pleasure of performing for VOA in person yet, I am grateful to Maestro Keene for having me virtually. When he asked for some well known, beloved Baroque selections, two pieces jumped out at me: "Waft her, Angels" from Handel’s Jephtha; and "Flow my Tears", by John Dowland (arguably one of his most recognized lute songs). While the Handel piece is normally done with a lush orchestration of strings, we thought it quite interesting to do with just lute, which allows us to stretch and pull the melody in a way that couldn’t normally be done on stage–a rather intimate version. While these pieces are certainly popular, I personally haven’t yet had the chance to sing either in performance, so it was a real joy for me to be able to present them–especially to the small crew present at the time of recording. I look forward to the return of concerts, and hope that you remain resilient and hopeful during these difficult times.
