Voices of Connection: 10/17 The Stupendous Amanda Forsythe!

Two and a half years ago we gave a concert in conjunction with an exhibition of Zurbaran paintings from Auckland Castle. We concluded the concert with excerpts from Handel’s little-know oratorio, Joseph and His Brethren. Right before the final chorus, there is a rapid-fire coloratura soprano aria to end all soprano arias. In order to perform this aria, you must have a “stupendous” soloist. Well, we sure did! Amanda Forsythe is currently one of the most acclaimed singers of Baroque music – and Handel in particular – in the world. We were so lucky to have her present for this special concert. This is the first time we have featured this performance on this series. Wait until you hear her extraordinary singing! Of course, as was the custom in the Baroque period, when she returns to the “A” section, she adds unbelievable improvised ornamentation. Runs and jumps all over the place. Utterly amazing!
