Voices of Connection: 05/12 Elgar: “The Angel’s Farewell” from Dream of Gerontius

Today's piece was chosen by our soprano and choral contractor Susie Braden!

Susie writes, "I was not introduced to this piece until 2002 when I heard a performance by the New York Philharmonic and it opened up a deep vein in my heart. The music is incredibly lush and the poetry had a powerful effect on me. In this excerpt performed in a recent Voices concert in which I had the privilege to sing, the “Angel's Farewell” was beautifully sung by Jennifer Johnson Cano. It gives me great comfort and hope to hear the angel carry Gerontius on to his journey to paradise." Thanks, Susie! And thanks to the great mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano who was so extraordinary in this piece!
