Voices of Connection: 04/14 Gregorian Chant and Duruflé: Kyrie from Messe cum jubilo

Maurice Duruflé was more influenced by Gregorian Chant than anything else. His gorgeous Messe cum jubilo was based upon the centuries-old chant which you will hear first, sung by the men of Voices. In the Duruflé “Kyrie” the chant melody is in the violins, then in the organ, and again in the violins. This work was dedicated to Duruflé's wife, the legendary organist who was my teacher in Paris. I believe we gave the very first orchestral performance in NYC of this special Mass.
