Voices of Connection: 08/11 Joyous Byrd
William Byrd was the greatest British composer of the late Renaissance, and just maybe the greatest British composer ever. He wrote a huge body of choral music, some of it profound – such as yesterday’s Miserere mei Deus. He also composed brilliant, virtuoso pieces: this is his best-known one of those. It is enchanting to listen to and so much fun to sing. The Voices and I often perform it as an encore at our Renaissance concerts.
