Voices of Connection: 11/19 MONTEVERDI “Deus in Adjutorium” from Vespers of 1610

Today we are pleased to repeat the first music video from our Gala on Tuesday night: the Opening Movement from Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610. One of the most remarkable openings in all choral music, this movement was Monteverdi’s reworking of his “Toccata” from his opera Orfeo. The principal difference was the addition of solid D Major chords in the chorus. How could that seemingly minor addition change something celebratory into a universal expression? I don’t know, but it did! – Dennis Keene
