Voices of Connection: 06/24 Two Renaissance Motets
Two wonderful short motets from the late Renaissance in Italy. Lodovico Viadana’s name is almost entirely known because of this terrific and enormously popular piece. It’s just as fun to perform as it is to listen to. Each brief section is inspired by pleasing melodies and lively counterpoint. This performance was recorded with just two singers on a part, to give a lighter, more nimble sound. Jesu, Dulcis Memoria is very true to Victoria’s atmospheric style. He was not interested in complex counterpoint. His goal was to transport the listener to a spiritual, meditative world.
