Voices of Connection: 09/30 Rachmaninoff Vespers

Today’s piece was chosen by long-time member of our alto section, Megan Friar! Megan writes, “Some of my favorite moments while singing with Voices of Ascension are when the basses are featured in pieces that show off their low notes. VOA is lucky to have some of the best bass vocalists in the world singing in the ensemble. When they sing, their low notes resonate deep inside my chest and often bring tears to my eyes for their sheer beauty. I remember the basses that we have lost over the years, including Walter Richardson, Christopher Roselli, and Kurt-Owen Richards. Those rich, low sonorities can be heard in much of the Russian repertory, such as this selection of the third movement of the Rachmaninoff Vespers.” Thanks, Megan!
