This is one of Victoria’s most famous and beautiful motets. It is based on a Gregorian Chant melody which you will hear preceding the motet, as sung by the men in our chorus. I first became familiar with this piece through the rehearsals and performances of it by one of the fathers of American choral music, Roger Wagner. For over 30 years he began every tour concert with this piece. I must admit my interpretation is completely inspired by how he used to do the motet.
