Voices of Connection: 03/12 Stanford’s Best Piece
Irish by birth, and trained in Germany, Stanford was perhaps the most important church musician in England at the beginning of the 20th century. He wrote a large amount of choral music and was teacher to generations of other prominent church composers. His Beati quorum via is one of three a cappella motets composed in 1905. It is a beautiful vehicle for chorus, with the three upper parts often in dialogue with the three lower ones.
