Voices of Connection: 03/11 Song of the Stars!

GRANADOS Song of the Stars
Voices of Ascension | Dennis Keene, Artistic Director
Mark Kruczek, organ | Douglas Riva, piano

This is the only recording ever made of Granados's "Song of the Stars." What a truly haunting, gorgeous work this is! Nothing quite like it. We'll hear just a portion of this extended piece for piano, organ, and 3 choruses today, and I'll share more of it on Tuesday during our Music with the Maestro Live event. I can't wait to journey with you to Catalonia through music, poetry, and design. See the details below!

MUSIC WITH THE MAESTRO LIVE - SONG OF THE STARS

TUESDAY, MARCH 16 AT 7 PM (ALSO AVAILABLE ON DEMAND)

“Song of the Stars,” our Grammy-nominated CD of Spanish Choral Music, will be the topic of this evening’s live Zoom event. Dennis Keene will talk about the remarkable discovery of the manuscript of Granados’s piece – lost for almost a century, our modern premiere of the piece and subsequent recording, and play excerpts of Song of the Stars as well as rare and remarkable works by Casals, Oltra and others from the region surrounding Barcelona: Catalonia. Dennis will also share some of the visual beauty of the Art Nouveau period in the works of Antoni Gaudi and others.

Music With the Maestro Live: Over the course of the 2020–2021 season Artistic Director Dennis Keene delves into selected musical works with recorded excerpts and behind-the-scenes insights and stories, including their significance to Voices of Ascension. It all happens live on Zoom. Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

The event goes live on Zoom Webinar, March 16th at 7 pm.

Ticket holders will also be able to view the event on-demand after the initial broadcast.*
