Voices of Connection: 04/04 Duruflé: Gloria from Messe Cum Jubilo

Composed for a choir of baritones in unison with organ and orchestral accompaniment, this “Gloria” begins with some of the most extravagant, flamboyant music Duruflé ever composed. Fabulous splashes of color erupt from the orchestra. The men sing in the uppermost reaches of their voices. The middle section is slower and prayerful, with solos by baritone, tenor, and viola. A return to the joyous outbursts of the beginning bring the movement to a thrilling conclusion.
