Voices of Connection: 09/16 Joyous Weelkes
Today’s piece is from exactly the same school of virtuosic English anthems as the Gibbons piece yesterday. But this one has a strength and vigor that’s different. And I love two particular details: the unexpected and thoroughly terrific solo that comes out of nowhere and then is gone (and bravo Peter Stewart, you sang it with such flair!); and I love the ending where the tune is hurled up to the highest notes. Great piece!
